Motz's Burgers has quietly slid into Southgate, bringing its old-school Detroit sliders to a new Downriver crowd along Eureka Road. The family-owned brand held a low-key soft opening last Saturday and is set for an official grand opening next Monday. Inside the compact storefront, guests will find Motz's signature little sliders, thick milkshakes and shoestring fries, with a cozy dining room that seats about a dozen.
The Southgate shop is run by brothers Mike and Tony Milosavljevski, who took over a former bakery to build out the new spot, according to the Detroit Free Press. The paper notes that their parents, Bob and Mary, bought the original Mott's hamburgers in 1996 and later rebranded it as Motz's. Bob told the outlet, "if they need us, we are there." The Detroit Free Press also reports that the Southgate location soft-opened last Saturday for a trial run and is slated to officially open next Monday.
What's on the menu
The Southgate menu sticks to the Motz's playbook: small beef sliders topped with grilled onions, ketchup, mustard and pickles, plus shoestring fries and thick-battered onion rings on the side. Milkshakes pour in classic vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. The Redford location’s menu on Uber Eats shows similar offerings and current prices, though diners should expect slight variations in items or prices from one shop to another.
A family-run brand since 1929
Motz's traces its roots to a 1929 slider diner at Fort and Green in southwest Detroit, and the company leans into local suppliers and simple, made-to-order cooking on its website. As outlined by Motz's Burgers, Bob and Mary Milosavljevski updated the name but kept the menu when they bought the shop in the 1990s, and their sons now operate the newer locations. The company lists three addresses on its site, with Southgate joining the original Detroit shop and the Redford outpost.
Practical details
Hours at the Southgate restaurant are listed as 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, according to the Detroit Free Press. Local listings place the new storefront at 18714 Eureka Road with a contact number of 734-288-0587, and MapQuest also carries the same address and phone details for the Southgate location.
Downriver pickup
Expect counter service and quick turns rather than a leisurely sit-down meal; the small dining room and earlier closing time lean into grab-and-go orders and fast bites. The Southgate opening nudges Motz's a bit farther into suburban Detroit territory after its Redford expansion, and the owners say they plan more growth while keeping the brand's longtime recipes and local suppliers at the center of their operation, according to Motz's Burgers.
