School and police officials said the campus was not believed to be in immediate danger while the search unfolded, even as a heavy law-enforcement presence moved into the area.
Police Activity Focused Near West Bellfort and Atwell
The operation centered on West Bellfort and nearby streets, where witnesses reported multiple patrol units and officers creating a cordon, according to KHOU. The outlet updated its coverage at 7:40 a.m. CT, with video showing officers holding the perimeter while continuing to search the area.
Parker Elementary Sits Inside the Search Zone
Parker Elementary, a Houston ISD music magnet campus, is located at 10626 Atwell Drive, according to Parker Elementary. The school sits just off West Bellfort in southwest Houston, placing it squarely within the section of the neighborhood where officers were concentrated.
Officials Say Campus Not in Immediate Danger
Officials told KHOU, "There is no immediate threat to the campus." The station reported that officers kept families and other bystanders outside the perimeter while they continued their search through nearby streets for the suspect.
