Sunday evening traffic along State Road 50 turned deadly when a 39-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a fiery crash with a Buick at the intersection of SR 50 and Taylor Creek Road in Orange County. The collision happened just before 7:30 p.m., and both vehicles went up in flames, according to emergency responders. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 67-year-old Buick driver stayed on site and was not injured.
Crash details and response
According to FOX 35 Orlando, the Florida Highway Patrol said the Buick driver was heading toward a private driveway on Taylor Creek Road and pulled into the westbound lanes of SR 50, striking the front of the motorcycle. The impact threw the rider from the bike, and first responders arrived to find both the car and the motorcycle on fire.
Crews shut down the roadway while firefighters knocked down the flames and investigators documented the scene.
Statewide motorcycle toll
Florida continues to log a heavy motorcycle crash toll. The state's crash dashboard recorded roughly 9,420 motorcycle crashes and about 578 deaths in 2024, according to a USA TODAY Network report. Safety advocates routinely highlight those figures when urging riders to gear up and drivers to watch carefully for motorcycles, especially on busy roads like SR 50.
Crash history at SR 50 and Taylor Creek
The Colonial Drive stretch around Taylor Creek Road has seen serious crashes before. ClickOrlando reported a fatal moped crash in the same general area in April 2025. That deadly wreck and other collisions have fueled local concern about speed and visibility along SR 50, a heavily traveled east–west corridor through the county.
Investigation underway
The Florida Highway Patrol's crash unit is leading the investigation. Troopers told FOX 35 Orlando that investigators are working to determine what factors led up to the collision. Officials have not said whether any charges will be filed. The crash remains under investigation.
