Sudbury police say one of their own is recovering from minor injuries after coming under missile fire while deployed overseas with the U.S. Navy.
The department said Sunday that Department Assistant Owen Gerow, who serves with Sudbury Police when he is not on military duty, was hurt after what officials described as “several missile impacts.” The announcement asked residents to keep all deployed service members in their thoughts and prayers as more details are gathered.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our military personnel in harm's way,” the department wrote in a social media update, according to the Sudbury Police Department. The post identified Gerow by name and said he and his colleagues experienced multiple missile strikes and sustained minor injuries.
Sudbury Connection
Gerow is listed on the town’s police website as a department assistant, confirming his role with the local force, according to the Sudbury Police Department. The municipal listing provides his title but does not specify his military unit or current base.
Regional Context
The local update lands against a tense backdrop overseas. The incident comes amid wider regional escalation after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran prompted broad Iranian missile and drone counterattacks across the Gulf, disrupting airspace and damaging infrastructure, as reported by USNI News.
In the same wave of violence, U.S. Central Command reported that three U.S. service members were killed and five were seriously wounded, and that “several others” suffered minor shrapnel injuries and concussions, according to Defense News.
Local Reaction
The Sudbury department’s social media statement did not provide operational details such as Gerow’s exact location or his Navy unit, according to the same Sudbury Police Department post. Officials asked for privacy for service members and urged the community to support them while additional information is gathered.
