Two people were shot today outside Checkmate Detroit on Larned Street in downtown Detroit, according to police. Investigators say a man and a woman were sitting in a car when a suspect tried to rob them and opened fire, hitting both victims. Authorities told the outlet that a third person walked up to the parked car in what they believe was an attempted robbery, fired multiple shots into the vehicle, then took off. Both occupants of the car were struck. Police said the victims are expected to recover and that the case remains an active investigation.

Detectives say they are combing through surveillance and cellphone video and are urging witnesses to share any footage that could help identify the suspect.
