Soon-to-open Sushi Kindai is gearing up to bring a Japanese-fusion sushi spread to Horizon West in Winter Garden, with owner James Gao planning a full-scale sushi program for the neighborhood. Interior buildout at the future spot has just kicked off, and the team is aiming for a late-2026 opening. When it finally debuts, the restaurant is expected to serve both lunch and dinner with sushi, sashimi, maki rolls, and bento-style plates on the menu.
As reported by What Now Orlando, Gao said the space at the Shoppes of Lakeview has moved into its buildout phase, and the team is currently targeting a September or October 2026 opening. The outlet also notes that the name "kindai" translates to "contemporary" and that the concept is designed to blend traditional Japanese flavors with modern plating and presentation.
State records back up the details. Business filings show SUSHI KINDAI HORIZON WEST INC was incorporated on March 3, 2025, and lists 8810 Seidel Road, Suite 130, as the principal address, with Chao Hang Gao named as company president and registered agent, according to Sunbiz. Those filings line up the legal entity with the same Shoppes of Lakeview address highlighted in local coverage.
Business Debut reported that the team had previously eyed a mid-May 2026 debut, with interior work to begin once the plaza turned over the space. That outlet describes the planned restaurant as a large-format build, with more than 150 seats, a dedicated sushi bar and an outdoor patio, and notes that Sushi Kindai would be the only sushi-focused concept committed so far to the Shoppes of Lakeview.
What to expect
Guests can look for a contemporary sushi program built around sushi and sashimi, along with signature maki rolls, creative appetizers, and hibachi-style bento boxes, according to What Now Orlando. The report adds that the bar is expected to stock sake, soju, beer, and Japanese-inspired cocktails, with the kitchen running for both lunch and dinner once the doors open.
Neighborhood fit
The Shoppes of Lakeview and the surrounding Horizon West area have been steadily filling in with new restaurants and services, and local coverage lists Sushi Kindai among the spring-to-late-2026 arrivals at the plaza, per Horizon West Magazine. That positioning suggests the restaurant is part of a broader retail push that already includes pizza, dental, and child-care tenants at the site.
The owners say they will announce firm operating hours, a soft-opening date, and a grand-opening plan as buildout moves forward, and a website and social channels were not live at the time of reporting, Business Debut notes. We will update when a confirmed opening date is announced.
