A months-long homicide investigation in South Sacramento has led to a second arrest in the Meadowview shooting that killed a 21-year-old man last October, according to police.
Authorities say officers arrested 18-year-old John Cruz on March 5, 2026, and booked him on homicide-related charges. The shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 16, 2025, in the 2400 block of Meadowview Road, where the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say second teen now in custody
In a news release, Sacramento police said Cruz was taken into custody on March 5 after what the department called “unwavering follow‑up and investigative efforts.” The arrest followed work by homicide detectives and an apprehension team, and Cruz was booked on homicide-related charges, according to FOX40.
How the case unfolded
Officers responded just before 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 16, 2025, to reports of a shooting in the 2400 block of Meadowview Road, where they found an adult male with at least one gunshot wound, according to a Sacramento Police Department news release. Lifesaving efforts at the scene were unsuccessful. Homicide detectives and crime-scene investigators processed the area and collected evidence as the investigation continued, the department said in its earlier statement.
Earlier arrest and victim identified
In the days after the killing, the Sacramento Police Department arrested 18-year-old Davian Sida and booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail on homicide-related charges, local reporting shows. The Sacramento County Coroner later identified the victim as 21-year-old Matthew Anderson, according to local coverage.
What comes next in the case
Cruz remains booked as prosecutors weigh charging decisions. Formal charges and a court date had not been announced at the time of reporting, per FOX40. Police are still asking anyone with information to contact Sacramento dispatch or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers, according to the department’s earlier release.
