Early Friday morning, a truck slammed through the front of Grace Coffee in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward, leaving the popular cafe with a gaping hole where its windows used to be. The shop will stay closed while crews tackle what owners described as extensive damage. No customers or staff were injured.
"We're incredibly grateful no one was hurt, and we'll keep you updated as we begin repairs," the cafe wrote in a social post, as reported by TMJ4. The post said the closure was necessary because of the "extensive damage" and did not share any information about the driver or what led up to the crash. TMJ4 reported that it had reached out to the Milwaukee Police Department for comment and had not yet heard back.
Where It Happened
Grace Coffee's Milwaukee outpost is located at 102 N. Water St. in the heart of the Third Ward, according to Grace Coffee. The Madison-based chain expanded into the neighborhood in late 2023, as detailed by Urban Milwaukee.
Neighborhood Context
The Historic Third Ward is a compact, high-traffic arts and dining district along the Milwaukee River that draws shoppers and tourists year-round, according to the neighborhood association. A truck slamming into a storefront in that corridor can ripple out to nearby restaurants and retailers while cleanup and repairs are underway.
What's Next
The owners said they will share updates as repairs get going but did not offer any timetable for reopening. As of TMJ4's report, the Milwaukee Police Department had not returned requests for comment and no further details about the cause had been released.
