A two-alarm fire ripped through a two-story commercial building on South Main Street in Zelienople last night, drawing a swarm of fire crews and even a news helicopter to the downtown strip. Early reports said the blaze involved a Main Street florist and nearby storefronts, and officials reported no injuries.
Sky 4 aerial footage captured several fire trucks packed along the street as crews attacked the flames from multiple angles, while Butler County dispatchers confirmed that calls started coming in around 4 p.m. for a two-alarm fire. Firefighters were working at Flowers by M.E., trying to knock down the fire and shield neighboring businesses from damage, according to WTAE.
Florist Among Businesses Impacted
Flowers by M.E. appears in the borough’s business directory as a relatively new face on South Main Street, listed with a storefront in the heart of downtown. The Zelienople business hub places the shop at 143 S Main St., part of a tightly packed block of retailers and restaurants that helps anchor the borough’s commercial core, according to Zelienople Borough.
Local Response And What Comes Next
The Harmony Fire District, the volunteer department that covers Zelienople and surrounding townships, notes on its website that it operates a Main Street station and provides training for local crews, according to Harmony Fire District. The district and neighboring companies routinely work together on mutual aid for larger multi-alarm incidents like Monday’s blaze.
No injuries were reported as of Monday evening, and Action News 4 said it was still working to learn what sparked the fire. Investigators and dispatchers remained on scene into the evening as crews continued their cleanup and assessment, according to WTAE.
