A routine commute inside Chicago's Union Station turned chaotic when a 25-year-old man allegedly lunged at a fellow passenger, holding a knife to the man's face before slashing toward his throat, prosecutors say. Witnesses recorded the confrontation on their phones, and the victim escaped what prosecutors describe as a near miss. The suspect was arrested days later and is now being held as the case moves through the Cook County court.
Prosecutors identified the suspect as Zakir Ibrahim and said the attack was captured on video by bystanders, as reported by CWBChicago. According to prosecutors, Ibrahim was taken into custody on March 3 and faces an attempted murder charge. They allege he told others he was a CIA agent and claimed he believed the victim was a hitman.
What Prosecutors Say Happened
In a detention petition, prosecutors wrote that Ibrahim "held a knife to the victim's nose" before stepping back and slashing at the man's throat, "only narrowly missing the victim's throat by less than an inch," the filing states, according to CWBChicago. Cook County Judge Luciano Panici Jr. ordered Ibrahim detained pending trial, citing the video as backing up the prosecutors' account.
Court And Custody Status
Jail records show Ibrahim is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 27, 2026, according to the New York Post. An attorney assigned to Ibrahim was not identified in those records, the Post reported. He faces an attempted murder charge and remains presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in court.
