San Antonio is about to get a taste of California-style Nashville hot chicken, complete with a liability waiver. Angry Chickz, a fast-growing brand out of the Golden State, is set to open its first Alamo City outpost this summer at the Commons at Tezel shopping center, bringing its crispy chicken tenders and fiery heat scale that tops out at an “Angry” level requiring diners to sign on the dotted line.
As reported by CultureMap San Antonio, the restaurant aims to wrap construction on its 8111 Tezel Rd location in early July. The outlet notes that state filings identify the tenant buildout and that Angry Chickz got its start in East Hollywood in 2018 before expanding across California, Arizona, and Nevada.
Where It Will Land
Property listings for the Commons at Tezel Town Center show Angry Chickz among the incoming tenants at 8111 Tezel Rd, lining up alongside quick-serve staples such as McDonald’s and Starbucks, according to the development’s leasing materials. The center is being marketed by DuWest Realty and ARVO Ventures, and state project records for the Commons are available from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Those filings put the overall Commons project on the books with the state, although individual opening dates and unit sizes can still shift.
Menu, Heat And A Waiver
Angry Chickz builds its menu around chicken tenders served as sliders, on thick toast, over rice, or in bowls, with comfort-food sides like fries and mac ’n’ cheese. The brand warns that its hottest “Angry” level requires a signed waiver, per the Angry Chickz website, so mild eaters may want to proceed with caution. The chain quietly tested the Texas waters last year in the Houston area, where its Webster outpost marked Angry Chickz’s statewide debut, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
What It Means For San Antonio
Angry Chickz’s arrival in San Antonio is part of a broader franchising push into the region. MySA reports that a multi-unit agreement is in place to bring roughly 25 locations to Texas and New Mexico over the next five years. The Commons at Tezel location will add another quick-serve, takeout-friendly option to a fast-growing Northwest Side retail corridor where developers are banking on steady, everyday foot traffic.
Neither Angry Chickz nor the Commons at Tezel developer has announced a public grand-opening date, CultureMap San Antonio notes. State project timelines are only estimates, and opening dates often slip, so the July target should be treated as flexible while interior work continues.
