A late-night walk in Ontario turned terrifying on Saturday when a man allegedly tried to force a woman into his car, only to bolt after a witness stepped in, according to police. The woman escaped with minor scratches and torn clothing, and officers later arrested 29-year-old Israel Alejandro Carrizalez of Rancho Cucamonga. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
Officers were called just after 10 p.m. to the 2700 block of East Inland Empire Boulevard after a witness reported a vehicle pulling up alongside a woman who was walking alone, according to the City of Ontario. The witness told police they heard the woman scream and saw a man try to drag her into the vehicle before the bystander intervened, prompting the suspect to drive off.
How police tracked the suspect
Working off the witness descriptions and using the department’s Real Time Information Center camera network, officers followed the suspect vehicle as it left the scene and later found it parked at a home in the 8700 block of Arrow Route in Rancho Cucamonga, CBS Los Angeles reports. Police say the victim and witnesses then positively identified Carrizalez, who was taken into custody without incident. Investigators also released photos of Carrizalez and the gray Dodge Challenger they say was used in the attempted kidnapping.
Charges and detention
Carrizalez was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on felony counts that include kidnapping and false imprisonment, and is being held on $500,000 bail, per the City of Ontario. Detectives say they believe there could be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to contact investigators as they continue to build the case.
