A deadly wrong-way crash on Highway 6 North near Clay Road in northwest Houston left one woman dead and sent two other drivers to local hospitals on Sunday, according to deputies.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene and shut down the northbound lanes while investigators worked. Officials said the driver's identity has not been released, with authorities waiting to notify family members.
According to KHOU, deputies say a Chevrolet Trax was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it slammed head-on into a Dodge Charger. The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other drivers were taken to hospitals with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, the outlet reported. Debris from the crash also struck a second Chevrolet Trax.
Investigation and Traffic Impact
KHOU reported that deputies were dispatched Sunday and that the crash remains under investigation. The roadway stayed closed while the medical examiner's office conducted an assessment and wrecker crews worked to clear the vehicles.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office told KHOU the identity of the wrong-way driver has not been released, again citing the need to notify next of kin first.
What Drivers Should Know
Wrong-way collisions often involve high speeds and head-on impacts, which can make them especially deadly. Investigators remind drivers that if they spot a vehicle going the wrong direction, they should call 911 immediately rather than trying to intervene themselves.
