A registered sex offender from Aloha is headed back to prison for a long stretch after a federal judge in Portland sentenced him to 10 years behind bars for accessing child pornography while already on probation for a 2023 sex abuse conviction.

Thomas Allen Vetsch, 56, will also spend another decade on supervised release once his federal prison term is over, tightening the legal leash on a man with a long history in the system.

According to KPTV, investigators searched Vetsch’s home in July 2024 and found more than 40 images of child sexual abuse material on his laptop. That discovery led to a federal indictment in August 2024 and a guilty plea in January 2026. The outlet reports Vetsch is a registered sex offender based on a 2006 conviction for encouraging child sex abuse.

The U.S. District Court calendar for Portland lists Vetsch’s sentencing on April 6, 2026, under case number 3:24-cr-00317-IM, according to the U.S. District Court of Oregon. The docket shows the case was assigned to Judge Immergut in Courtroom 13A.

Federal Focus On Child Exploitation Cases

Federal authorities have been leaning hard into online child exploitation prosecutions in recent years, coordinating efforts among multiple agencies and offices. The Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood brings together U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, and local partners to find and prosecute people who exploit children, per the Department of Justice.

"Protecting our children is the District of Oregon’s top priority," U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford said in a statement, adding that the sentence reflects a commitment to holding repeat offenders accountable, as reported by KPTV. In addition to the prison term, Vetsch will be subject to 10 years of supervised release after his sentence.

What Happens Next

Vetsch is now in federal custody and will begin serving his 10-year term. The Bureau of Prisons will determine his placement and handle any surrender instructions. Court records will track any future filings related to his supervision, restitution, or other post-sentencing matters.
