A tense manhunt unfolded in the wooded countryside south of Jamestown on Thursday as deputies with the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office searched for a woman they warned was armed and dangerous. Residents in nearby rural neighborhoods were urged to stay inside, lock up, and keep clear of the area while law enforcement teams swept the woods and backroads.
According to WATE, the search kicked off around 10:30 a.m., with deputies saying the woman was believed to be on foot. She was described as about 5'5" with short blonde hair and possibly wearing a red T‑shirt. Authorities are treating her as armed and dangerous and ask anyone who thinks they have seen her to call 911 or contact the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office at 931‑879‑8142.
Where deputies were searching
The sheriff’s office told residents to be especially alert in the areas of Whippoorwill Lane, Quail Run, and Crooked Creek south of Jamestown. Those roads cut through low‑density, heavily wooded tracts, and local property listings for Quail Run Estates show tree‑lined lots and long, private drives that can slow a ground search and make it harder to lock down a perimeter. That kind of terrain helps explain the careful, methodical way deputies worked their way through the area.
What officials are asking residents
As reported by WATE, the sheriff’s office urged people to stay away from the search zone and to keep their homes secured while deputies were on the ground. Officials also warned residents not to approach the woman if they spot her and instead to report any sighting immediately to 911 or the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office at 931‑879‑8142.
Deputies remained in the area into the afternoon and said they would share more information as the situation develops. Anyone with a tip that could help the search is asked to contact emergency dispatch or the sheriff’s office and to follow official guidance to keep themselves and their neighbors safe.
