Oregon State freshman pitcher Tyler Bellerose was seriously injured in a car accident on Monday, prompting the university to postpone the Beavers’ Tuesday game against Oregon at Hillsboro Hops Ballpark. Teammates, coaches and fans were left stunned as they scrambled for updates while the program and Bellerose’s family focused on his condition.
According to the Portland Tribune, Oregon State said Bellerose, a freshman right-hander, was involved in an automobile crash that resulted in a serious medical condition, and a university spokesperson told the paper that he survived the incident. The paper reported that the program asked Beaver Nation to keep Bellerose, his family and Beaver baseball in their thoughts during this time.
Game Postponed and Rescheduling Plans
Oregon State Athletics announced that Tuesday’s matchup at Hillsboro Hops Ballpark was postponed as the schools work to identify a new date. Tickets for the scheduled game will remain valid for the rescheduled contest, and the athletics department is urging fans to follow the team’s official channels for further updates.
Bellerose's Background and Summer Play
Bellerose is an incoming Oregon State freshman and a right-hander from Huntington Beach High School who had already earned national attention in prep baseball. He was named MVP at the National High School Invitational, according to MLB.com, and the Corvallis Knights' site notes he went 3-0 with a 0.98 ERA across seven appearances and 18.1 innings while pitching in the West Coast League. The Knights list him as an incoming freshman for Oregon State.
Before the crash, Bellerose had not yet made his Oregon State debut, the Portland Tribune reported. In a team statement shared with the paper, Oregon State asked supporters to “keep Tyler, his family and Beaver baseball in your thoughts and surround them with support during this time.”
Messages of support have poured in from fans and local baseball communities, and the program says it will provide updates as more information becomes available. For now, the focus remains on Bellerose’s care and the privacy of his family, with baseball very much in the background.
