Lake Erie Scoops, the grab-and-go ice cream and treats shop in Gordon Square, is headed for its final scoop at the end of the month. Owner Jennifer Taggart announced on social media that the shop at 6604 Detroit Ave. will close on or around April 30, bringing a quiet end to a neighborhood spot that opened in early 2023.
Taggart told followers that "This space has been so much more than ice cream" and that she needs "to rest, reflect, and regroup," according to Cleveland Scene. The outlet reports that she shared the news across social channels and that the last day of business is expected to land on or about April 30.
From its compact storefront, Lake Erie Scoops has served small-batch homemade ice cream, pies, baked goods and nostalgic candy, with hours, contact information, menu details and address all posted on its website at Lake Erie Scoops.
From Sweet Moses To Lake Erie Scoops
Taggart opened Lake Erie Scoops in early 2023, stepping into the void left by the closure of Sweet Moses and other changes in the neighborhood, as part of a wave of new businesses in Detroit–Shoreway. At the time, local coverage highlighted the shop as a sign of new retail energy in Gordon Square; that early reporting was detailed by Cleveland 19.
What’s Next For The Menu
Even as the shop winds down, some of its treats are not disappearing entirely. In her post, Taggart said that a selection of Lake Erie Scoops baked goods will pop up at other neighborhood businesses while she takes a break, according to Cleveland Scene. She also noted she is proud of the products and partnerships she built during the shop’s short run.
Fans plotting one last visit, checking in on final flavors, or hunting for news of pop-up appearances should keep an eye on the shop’s website and social media for updates. Current hours, contact details and online ordering links remain available at Lake Erie Scoops.
