Grandview Heights is swapping Nashville-style heat for Louisville-style comfort. Biscuit Belly, a breakfast-and-brunch chain out of Kentucky, is moving into the vacant corner storefront at 1417 W. Fifth Ave., taking over the former Hot Chicken Takeover space with a menu built around big biscuit sandwiches and Southern staples. It is the latest in a steady run of restaurant turnover along Grandview's dining strip.
The move was first reported locally, with WSYX (ABC6) noting that Biscuit Belly is taking over the old Hot Chicken Takeover location and is already listing jobs tied to the address. The chain's own "Columbus – Grandview Heights (Coming Soon)" page lists 1417 W. 5th Ave. and includes an application link, which suggests hiring has started for the new spot.
Hot Chicken Takeover had operated at the corner since 2022 but was one of several locations the company shut down last year as it scaled back its central Ohio presence, according to The Columbus Dispatch. The vacancy now gives a new breakfast player a shot at a busy, highly visible corner near Grandview's main drag.
Permits and Paperwork in Motion
City records show Biscuit Belly is moving through the formal channels. Columbus council documents list a food-and-beverage permit application tied to 1417 W. 5th Ave., according to the City of Columbus agenda. The packet includes an entry for Biscuit Belly, LLC (Permit #10010907-1) and notes that the item was advertised in early March, which indicates the municipal review and permitting process is underway.
What Biscuit Belly Brings to the Table
Biscuit Belly bills itself as a fast-casual breakfast and brunch concept that revolves around scratch-made biscuits, oversized biscuit sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, and chicken and waffles, according to the company. Local coverage and the permit filing point to this Grandview Heights address as the chain's first Ohio outpost, but there is still no official opening date. 614Now reported on the permit and noted that no launch date has been announced.
Grandview already has a deep bench of local breakfast and brunch spots, so Biscuit Belly will be jumping into a pretty competitive morning scene. Neighborhood favorites such as Basic Biscuits are already serving biscuit-focused menus that have built loyal followings nearby.
For now, the timing remains fuzzy. The chain's Columbus page still lists the Grandview location as "Coming Soon," and job postings tied to the address remain active. An official opening date has yet to surface, and the company has not released a formal announcement. Prospective employees can keep an eye on local listings for current openings, per WSYX (ABC6), while neighbors wait to see when biscuits officially hit the corner.
