Wednesday, April 8, 2026 — It is a clear, cool start at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport this morning, with temperatures around 41°F (5°C). The calm vibe will not last long. South-southwest winds are expected to gust up to 30 mph through the morning and into the afternoon, pushing the high near 62°F before a passing cold front nudges readings back into the mid-50s. Light rain is possible between roughly 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., although most neighborhoods are likely to stay dry.
What To Expect Wednesday
Look for a mix of sun and clouds, with spotty and generally light showers possible from midday into late afternoon. The National Weather Service Twin Cities pegs the chance of rain at about 50% in parts of the area. Winds are the bigger storyline, from the southwest at 10–15 mph with gusts around 30 mph, easing after the front slips through. Highs should top out near 62°F before sliding back into the mid-50s later in the afternoon.
Afternoon Winds and Commute
A Wind Advisory runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday for parts of southern Minnesota, including Faribault, Freeborn, Martin and Steele counties, so the most powerful gusts stay well south of downtown Minneapolis. Drivers should watch for crosswinds on bridges and interstates like I‑90 and build in a little extra time for deliveries or open-air plans. It is also a good day to secure patio furniture and other lightweight items. We covered the midweek warm-up earlier this week; read our earlier Hoodline post on the midweek weather whiplash.
Looking Ahead
The broader pattern becomes more active by the weekend as Gulf moisture streams north, setting up Sunday and Monday as the best bets for stronger storms. Forecast highs climb into the low to mid 70s on both days, with an around-80% chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday and some storms capable of producing gusty winds. If you have outdoor plans, keep an eye on the timing and check for updated forecasts from the National Weather Service Twin Cities.
