A quiet Sunday morning in east Houston turned into a crime scene after officers discovered a man's body along South Cesar Chavez Boulevard, and investigators say the circumstances are anything but routine.
Houston police said they were called out around 8 a.m. Sunday and found the body showing signs of trauma. The victim is believed to be a man, but authorities have not released his name or an official cause of death. Detectives at the scene indicated the condition of the body suggests the death was not natural.

Medical Examiner To Pinpoint Cause And Manner Of Death
Per the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, the county medical examiner investigates sudden deaths and conducts autopsies to determine both cause and manner of death in cases referred by law enforcement. The agency notes in its public materials that its work includes preserving evidence and coordinating closely with police during death investigations, which would typically include a case like this one.
Nearby Area Has Seen Other Body Recoveries
The stretch around Wayside Drive has seen other grim discoveries in recent years. ABC13 reported in 2023 that a man's body was found near Liberty Road and Wayside Drive.
Across Houston, sudden deaths have kept investigators busy. Earlier this year, local outlets reported multiple deaths in a short span while authorities waited on autopsy results, as Click2Houston noted in January.
Houston police say the South Cesar Chavez investigation remains active and that more information will be released once it is available.
