A late-night argument on Chicago’s Far South Side turned into a shooting Sunday when a 28-year-old man was shot inside a building in the Brainerd neighborhood, police said. The gunfire broke out around 11:30 p.m. in the 9100 block of South Loomis Street, and authorities said the attack followed a dispute with someone the victim knew. He was reported to be in critical condition.
Police Details
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the offender approached the victim inside the building and opened fire, hitting him on the right side of his chest. The victim was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition. Area Two detectives are handling the case, and police said no arrests have been made.
Block's Recent History
The 9100 block of South Loomis has already seen its share of gunfire. Earlier this year, a 2024 stray-bullet incident left a woman injured inside her home. Around the same time, local broadcasters highlighted similar South Side shootings, underscoring how gunfire has repeatedly hit Brainerd neighborhoods, as ABC7 Chicago noted.
What's Next
Police say the investigation is ongoing and have released a few additional details. FOX 32 Chicago reports that the information comes from the Chicago Police Department, and detectives are continuing to look for witnesses and video as they work to piece together what happened inside the building.
