What police say
According to News 12 Brooklyn, the NYPD said late Saturday that officers were still working to track down the vehicle. The outlet reports that the driver took off in a white Infiniti and that the officer was brought to the hospital with minor injuries, with officials saying they are expected to recover. Police have not yet released information about the driver or what charges they might face if arrested.
Dangerous stretch near Wallabout
Neighbors and traffic safety advocates have long warned that the Wallabout corridor is trouble, with serious crashes reported in the area in recent years. In April 2024, a 10-year-old girl was killed after being struck at Wythe Avenue and Wallabout Street, a case highlighted by Streetsblog New York City amid broader concerns about speeding and reckless driving in Williamsburg. Advocates have pushed for stronger enforcement and street redesigns to reduce collisions on routes that combine heavy vehicle traffic with people walking and biking.
Investigators hunt for fleeing vehicle
Detectives are expected to comb through surveillance footage and any bystander video in the search for the white Infiniti, the NYPD told News 12 Brooklyn. As of Saturday night, police had not announced any arrests and had not released a suspect description or additional details about who might have been inside the vehicle.
