
A Wednesday afternoon in Soundview turned deadly when a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed on a Bronx block, according to authorities. Police say officers responded just after 4:30 p.m. to reports of an assault in front of 1337 Beach Ave, where they found the teen with a stab wound to his back.
Emergency medical workers rushed him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, but he was later pronounced dead.
As reported by News12 Bronx, police identified the victim as 17-year-old Jonathan Melo, who lived just over a mile from the scene. The outlet noted that officers found Melo at the Beach Avenue location and that EMS transported him to the hospital, where he died. According to News12, investigators had not yet determined a motive and had not named any suspects.
Investigation underway
The stabbing took place within the boundaries of the NYPD’s 43rd Precinct, which covers the southeast Bronx, including Soundview and Parkchester. As News12 Bronx reported, investigators had not clarified what led up to the stabbing or whether any suspects had been identified. Detectives have not released further details as of publication.
