An 8-year-old girl was among three people shot Wednesday night near East 35th Street and South King Drive in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, police said. The child was hit in the foot, while a 28-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were also struck. All three were taken to area hospitals and were reported to be in good condition.
According to ABC7 Chicago, the three victims were standing near the intersection when a dark-colored SUV pulled up, and at least one person opened fire into the group. The outlet reports the girl was wounded in the foot, the woman was shot in the knee, and the man suffered multiple gunshot wounds. No arrests had been announced as of the station’s report, and detectives were continuing their investigation.
Bronzeville context
The shooting is the latest vehicle-based attack on the Near South Side. As reported by NBC Chicago, a March drive-by in Bronzeville left a 13-year-old girl critically wounded, and the suspect in that case fled the scene. That earlier incident was handled by Area One detectives, the outlet noted.
Police response
Chicago police told ABC7 Chicago they are investigating Wednesday night’s shooting and are asking anyone with video or tips to contact Area One detectives. Officials did not immediately release information about possible suspects.
