Dozo Omakase and Handroll, the budget-minded sushi counter tucked behind the main row at Trinity Groves, has called it quits after just over a year in business, leaving sushi-lovers on a budget with one fewer stop and adding yet another vacancy to the West Dallas food park's revolving lineup of restaurants.

As reported by The Dallas Morning News, owners Ronald Le and Yisha Zhao announced the closure on Instagram, writing, "After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close Dozo Omakase," while thanking guests and staff. According to the outlet, the Trinity Groves counter was permanently closed as of yesterday, and the owners did not give a reason for shutting the doors.

Dozo opened in early 2025 and pitched itself as a lower-cost omakase option, pairing a full tasting menu with cheaper nigiri sets and happy hour-friendly plates. D Magazine previously highlighted the restaurant's pricing and approach, noting how it tried to make the typically splurgy omakase experience a little more accessible. The owners are still operating a takeout sibling, Dozo Sushi, in Richardson.

Trinity Groves' Latest Shakeup

The closure is the latest sign of churn at Trinity Groves, a development that has long cycled through concepts as it tinkers with the right mix for the neighborhood. In a separate report, The Dallas Morning News noted that longtime chocolatier Kate Weiser will shutter several locations, underscoring how tight the margins can be for smaller operators in the complex.

Local critics and food writers say the omakase field in Dallas is getting crowded, and that it can be tough for any single counter to stand out inside a sprawling dining destination. CraveDFW has pointed to competition and visibility as persistent problems for newcomers at Trinity Groves, challenges that Dozo ultimately could not sidestep.

The owners have directed customers to their Richardson to-go operation instead. Dozo's website lists hours, a takeout omakase option, and the Richardson address at 800 E. Arapaho Rd., Ste. 112A. The former Trinity Groves space at 3011 Gulden Lane, Suite 109 is listed as permanently closed in local reporting.
