A 39-year-old man took gunfire while sitting in his Dodge Durango on Cooper Street in Bushwick early Tuesday, according to police. Responding officers found him inside the SUV with gunshot wounds to his right shoulder and hand and the driver’s-side window blown out. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, authorities said.
Police Say 13 Shots Ripped Into the SUV
The gunfire erupted just after 3:25 a.m., and investigators counted roughly 13 rounds fired at the Durango, police told WABC. Detectives say the shooters took off in another vehicle, and as of now no arrests have been made while the NYPD canvasses the area looking for surveillance video and witnesses.
Brookdale Trauma Team Handles East Brooklyn Shootings
The victim was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, which is part of the One Brooklyn Health system. The hospital runs an American College of Surgeons–verified Level II trauma center serving eastern Brooklyn, according to One Brooklyn Health. That trauma designation makes Brookdale a common destination for shooting victims from neighborhoods across the borough’s east side.
