Authorities are asking for the public’s help tracking down a man who allegedly exposed himself to a woman aboard a Metrolink train during a crowded morning commute on March 31. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says the train’s conductor kicked the suspect off at the Cal State L.A. stop, and detectives have since released images in an effort to identify him. Investigators say he is still at large as they follow up on incoming tips.

According to KTLA, the Sheriff’s Department reports that the incident happened at about 8:38 a.m. and involved a single female victim. Deputies describe the suspect as a Black man in his 30s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and roughly 140 pounds. He was last seen in dark shorts and a gray-and-red shirt. After the conductor ordered him off at the Cal State L.A. station, witnesses saw him walking away from the platform.

Metrolink says it partners with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for onboard policing and urges riders to report any suspicious behavior to train crews or to its Security Operations Center. The agency notes that the LASD-Metrolink Bureau has contract policing responsibility for crimes aboard its trains and handles random patrols along with directed enforcement. Riders are reminded to call 911 in an emergency and to alert staff or security for any safety concerns.

Investigators released a surveillance image of the man on April 28 in an effort to identify him, the Sheriff’s Department told KTLA. Anyone with information is asked to contact the LASD Metrolink Bureau at 909-593-7479 or email Detective R. Mendoza at [email protected]. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through LA Regional Crime Stoppers.

What riders can do

If you were on that train or have phone video or photos from the March 31 commute, investigators are asking you to preserve any footage and share it with them. Riders who feel unsafe are advised to move to a more populated car or platform and notify a conductor or Metrolink staff right away. For non-emergency security issues, call Metrolink’s Security Operations Center at 866-640-5190, and always call 911 for immediate threats.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and are asking the public to review any recordings or images from that morning. Anyone with relevant information is urged to come forward to help identify the man seen in the released images.
