For a group of thrill-seekers at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the Supergirl Sky Flight lived up to its name a little too literally when the towering swing ride stalled with riders hovering about 200 feet over the park for roughly 10 to 15 minutes.
Video of the frozen ride, shared by park guest Maria Salazar, shows chairs suspended in midair while staff on the ground work to get everyone back down. It is the kind of view most people prefer to enjoy while still moving.
Salazar, who recorded the scene, told Storyful the ride "stopped in the air for about 10 to 15 minutes" and described the wait as "scary" as passengers hung tight for a rescue, according to ABC7 Chicago. The clip was distributed by Storyful, which hosts the original footage.
Park response
In a statement to Storyful, a Six Flags spokesperson said the sudden stop was not due to a mechanical failure. Instead, an operator manually halted the ride after spotting a guest holding a cell phone, which the park says violates its safety policy.
"Once the issue was resolved, the ride resumed. All guests safely exited, and the ride remained open for the remainder of the day," the spokesperson said. The park reported no injuries linked to the incident.
About the ride
The Supergirl Sky Flight is a StarFlyer-style swing tower that lifts riders to roughly 200 feet and whirls them around a central tower, according to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The attraction is one of the park's high-profile skyline rides and operates with standard height and safety restrictions.
Local coverage has previously noted occasional temporary stoppages at Fiesta Texas and highlighted the park's routine inspection practices, MySanAntonio reported.
What riders should know
Episodes like this tend to be more nerve-racking than dangerous. Parks typically pause operations, check out any safety concerns and then restart rides once staff clear them for use. In this case, the park told ABC7 Chicago that maintenance personnel brought the riders back down and the Supergirl Sky Flight reopened the same day.
