A quiet Channelview neighborhood turned into a crime scene Friday after a toddler was critically wounded in what Harris County deputies are calling an apparent accidental shooting inside a home. The child, believed to be about 3 years old, was rushed by air ambulance for emergency treatment as investigators swarmed the property.
Deputies: Toddler Hit In Unintentional Shooting On Onaleigh Drive
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said on X that deputies responded to a home in the 700 block of Onaleigh Drive in Channelview, where early information indicated a toddler had suffered an unintentional gunshot wound. The child was reported to be in critical condition as Crime Scene investigators and detectives headed to the scene and LifeFlight responded to transport the victim.
Unintentional shootings involving young children remain a stubborn problem across the country. Advocacy group Giffords notes that a significant share of unintentional gun deaths involve minors, and the Gun Violence Archive keeps a running database tracking incidents classified as unintentional.
