Cleveland wakes up cloudy and chilly this Saturday morning, with temperatures hovering around 40°F and low clouds hugging the lakeshore. High pressure keeps things dry and calm, but highs only reach near 50°F before a sharp warm swing moves in Sunday. After that, the workweek gets unsettled, with daily chances for showers and thunderstorms Monday through Wednesday and gusty south winds late Sunday into Monday.
Saturday: Chilly But Dry
Canadian high pressure slides across the Lower Great Lakes, keeping most neighborhoods dry and a bit breezy. Morning lake-effect clouds linger along Lake Erie before giving way to some sun, and highs top out in the upper 40s to near 50°F with north winds around 6 to 7 mph. By Saturday night, lows fall into the upper 30s to lower 40s, according to the National Weather Service Cleveland.
Sunday's Rapid Warmup
A shift in the surface pattern pulls in warm, moist air from the south on Sunday. Inland spots surge into the mid 70s, near 76°F, while the lakeshore hangs a bit cooler. There is a slight chance of a few quick showers along the lake between late morning and early afternoon, but most of the region sees partly sunny skies and noticeably more humid air.
Early-Week Storm Threat
A series of shortwaves sweeps through early in the week, ramping up rain and thunderstorm chances from Monday through Wednesday. The higher risk for more organized storms comes late Tuesday into Wednesday. South to southwest winds pick up late Sunday into Monday, with gusts possibly near 30 mph and overnight lows holding in the 60s, warm enough to challenge record warm overnight lows at some sites. Boaters will want to keep a close eye on Lake Erie conditions, as winds and waves may build and Small Craft Advisories could be needed, per the National Weather Service Cleveland.
Plan Ahead
Layer up for a cool but dry Saturday, then have the lightweight summer gear ready for Sunday’s quick warmup. If you have outdoor plans from Monday through Wednesday, keep checking the forecast and have a backup plan in case storms decide to crash the party.
