A 67-year-old motorcyclist was killed Monday after a crash at the intersection of Clinton Highway and Tillery Drive in Knoxville, according to the Knoxville Police Department. First responders arrived around 11 a.m., and the rider was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
What KPD Said
Knoxville Police Department investigators said the motorcyclist was traveling south on Clinton Highway while an SUV was traveling east on Tillery Drive. According to officers, the motorcyclist allegedly ran a red light and hit the side of the SUV, which then struck another car and caused only minor damage. The 67-year-old rider, who has not yet been identified, was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation, as reported by WVLT.
Another Crash This Week
The wreck marked the third motorcycle crash in Knox County in as many days, a grim streak for local riders and drivers alike. Two days earlier, another motorcyclist was killed on Clinton Highway near Treemont Drive, as reported by WBIR. In a separate crash on I-40, a 16-year-old suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of both feet, according to WSMV.
Investigation And Traffic Impacts
KPD asked drivers to steer clear of the area and use alternate routes while officers and crash-reconstruction teams worked the scene. Traffic maps showed heavy delays around the intersection during the investigation, per WVLT. Police say the rider’s identity has not been released and the investigation is still active.
No other injuries were reported, according to WBIR. The Knoxville Police Department said it will release additional information as it becomes available.
