What started as a tense lockdown at Copper Ridge School on Thompson Peak Parkway Tuesday night ended with Scottsdale police declaring the campus clear after a report that someone on site might have a weapon.
Officers carried out a methodical, room-by-room sweep of the school and reported finding no suspects and no weapons. No injuries were reported. After the search, the lockdown was lifted and the campus shifted into a shelter-in-place status, with students and staff kept on campus under controlled movement.

The school has been completely searched and is CLEAR.
-The lockdown has been lifted and the school is now in “shelter in place”.
-Parents need to refer to SUSD communications for guidance on pick up.
As the Scottsdale Police Department explained on X, officers “found no suspects or weapons at this point” and confirmed that the “school has been completely searched and is clear.” The update also reminded families that parents were not being allowed on campus at that time and should instead follow Scottsdale Unified School District instructions for pickup. Police posted the message while officers were still systematically clearing the grounds.
District protocols and communications
The Scottsdale Unified School District says its emergency plans are built around quick coordination with police and consistent, centralized communication with families. According to the Scottsdale Unified School District, campuses typically shift from a full lockdown to a shelter-in-place once law enforcement confirms there is no active threat and staff can safely resume limited, controlled activities. Families are urged to rely on official school and district alerts for pickup and reunification directions rather than heading straight to campus.
Support on campus
The district noted that “crisis counselors from the district were available to talk to students and will be back next week,” according to the Scottsdale Unified School District. District leaders said they plan to review the incident and fine-tune communication and reunification procedures so families have clearer guidance during any future emergencies. Scottsdale police remained at the school while follow-up checks and any needed investigative work continued.
For now, parents are asked not to come to the campus unless they receive explicit instructions from district or police officials and to stick to official SUSD and Scottsdale police channels for any new information. This story will be updated if authorities release significant additional details.
