Charges And What They Mean
Suffrin was booked on carjacking, assault and battery, and counts for leaving the scene, and he is expected to be arraigned in Newburyport District Court, Boston 25 News reports. Carjacking is a felony under Massachusetts law (M.G.L. c.265, §21A) and can carry up to 15 years in state prison, with increased penalties if a weapon was used, according to BonaVita Law Office. Leaving the scene after a crash can bring separate criminal penalties when injury or property damage occurs, as outlined in traffic-law overviews and legal resources.
The case will move through the district court system, where arraignment will set bail and the next court dates. Anyone with tips, video or other information connected to the incident is asked to contact Wenham police by phone or through the tip form on the Wenham Police Department.
