Two teenage boys, 15 and 17 years old, were arrested Tuesday and each charged with three felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm after what police describe as a quick burst of incidents across Chicago between March 15 and March 17. The alleged victims include a 35-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man. Authorities did not immediately release further details, and the investigation remains active.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the robberies unfolded in separate neighborhoods over three days: just after noon on March 15 in the 7600 block of South Exchange Avenue; around 9:17 a.m. on March 16 in the 1100 block of North Cleveland Avenue; and about 9:40 a.m. on March 17 in the 7500 block of South Exchange Avenue. FOX 32 reports that the information came from the Chicago Police Department and that police have opened an active investigation into the incidents.
Not the First Juvenile Spree
Short, fast sprees involving teenagers have popped up in Chicago this year. Teen trio nabbed reported a January case in which three teens were arrested after several gunpoint robberies on the North Side, and authorities have called for cross-unit coordination on similar cases.
Police Asking for Tips
Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com. Public advisories earlier this month warned residents about a string of armed robberies and carjackings across several neighborhoods. Per FOX 32 Chicago, investigators said masked suspects in some incidents used handguns and, in at least one case, a rifle.
