North Charlotte residents around the intersection of N. Graham Street and Nevin Road were met with a jarring sight Thursday night as police flooded the area in a large-scale response that left neighbors peering out windows and stepping onto porches.
Witnesses reported a police helicopter circling overhead while officers detained at least two people on the ground. An ambulance then pulled away from the scene with its lights and sirens going. As of that night, authorities had not released any official details about what sparked the response.
Local television crews quickly rolled up to document the scene. According to WCCB, crews arrived at about 10 p.m. and saw the heavy police presence, noted at least two people in handcuffs and watched a police helicopter hover above the intersection. WCCB also reported seeing an ambulance leave the area with lights and sirens, and said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating.
What Police Resources Were Visible
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department operates an aviation unit and, according to the department’s public materials, routinely uses air support during large or complex responses. The CMPD newsroom and contact pages also list the department’s non-emergency number along with options for submitting tips and handling media inquiries, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Ambulance and Medical Response
WCCB crews reported that an ambulance left the scene with lights and sirens activated, a sign that responders were likely transporting someone to a hospital. Mecklenburg EMS Agency, known locally as MEDIC, serves as the primary ambulance provider for 911 calls across Mecklenburg County, according to MEDIC.
Where This Happened and What Comes Next
The response unfolded just outside the Forest Pond neighborhood near North Graham Street and Nevin Road, an area that periodically sees police activity related to investigations and traffic enforcement. WCCB said its crews planned to update the story as more information is released. At the time of the report, officials had not provided specifics about any charges or injuries. We will continue to watch CMPD channels and local outlets for official updates.
