A 43-year-old Long Beach man was arrested Saturday after police say he walked into a woman’s East Hills home without permission, blocked her from leaving and then shoved her down a flight of stairs. The woman suffered minor injuries, and both she and the suspect were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Nassau County police identified the man as 43-year-old Shawn Morgenroth and said he took the woman’s phone and stopped her from getting away before the alleged assault, according to News 12. Officers later found Morgenroth hiding in the home’s basement, where they say he threatened them while holding a metal object, and used an electronic control device, commonly known as a Taser, to bring him into custody.
Local reporting places the incident at an East Hills residence around 5:28 p.m. Saturday and notes that officers ultimately tracked Morgenroth to the basement before arresting him. As reported by Daily Voice, police say he is facing burglary, robbery, assault, aggravated criminal contempt, unlawful imprisonment, criminal mischief and weapons-possession charges, and that he will be arraigned when medically practical.
Charges and Legal Status
Nassau County police also told News 12 that investigators determined Morgenroth had violated a valid order of protection. These remain allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
