What started as a terrifying wake-up call for a South San Francisco family turned into a multi-agency manhunt that stretched into the East Bay, with officers ultimately arresting a primary suspect on attempted murder charges.
South San Francisco police say shots were fired into an occupied apartment on the 300 block of Susie Way last Wednesday. Multiple rounds hit the unit, narrowly missing two people inside, including a small child who was asleep in bed. No injuries were reported, but police are treating the case as an attempted murder.
According to the South San Francisco Police Department, an unknown suspect initially opened fire on the apartment before fleeing. Detectives later identified persons of interest and a suspect vehicle, which was tracked to the East Bay.
From there, things escalated quickly. Investigators say suspects tried to dodge capture by meeting with others, switching vehicles and hiding out at a rural property. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office provided air support, following movements on the ground while officers worked to close in.
Coordinated Chase Ends In High-Risk Stop
The department credited around-the-clock investigative work across agencies for a rapid resolution of a very serious situation. With help from Contra Costa deputies and air support, officers conducted what they described as a coordinated high-risk stop. The suspects surrendered, and officers recovered evidence from the scenes, the department said.
The primary suspect was taken into custody and booked on attempted murder and related charges as detectives continued an active investigation, according to the South San Francisco Police Department. No injuries were reported during the stop.
What Investigators Are Working On Next
Police have not publicly released the name of the person arrested and have not said whether they expect additional arrests. Investigators say they have identified more persons of interest and are reviewing recovered evidence as they build the case.
Detectives say they are continuing to follow up on tips and will release further information when they are able.
