A quiet Sunday morning in Cornwall turned tragic when a 19-year-old driver was killed after his pickup veered off Mineral Springs Road and plunged down a steep embankment, coming to rest against a tree. First responders pronounced the young man dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash.
According to Daily Voice, Town of Cornwall Police said the wreck happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, along Mineral Springs Road (County Route 9), about a half mile north of Trout Brook Road. Police identified the driver as Logan Malone, 19, of Cornwall. Investigators said his 2003 Chevrolet S-10 was headed south when it left the roadway, struck a guardrail on the opposite side, went over it and then hit a tree. Malone was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

That mix of rural curves, trees and embankments can leave drivers with little room for error when a vehicle drifts off the pavement.

Town of Woodbury Police, New York State Police, Cornwall EMS, the Cornwall and Woodbury fire departments, and the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office all responded to assist at the scene, according to Daily Voice. Investigators have not yet released information about possible contributing factors such as speed or impairment, and the crash remains under active investigation.
