A burst of late-night gunfire in the Stetson Hills neighborhood of Colorado Springs left one man dead and two others wounded early Sunday, according to police, rattling residents near busy Powers Boulevard.
Police response and timeline
According to The Denver Post, officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of North Powers Boulevard at about 12:31 a.m. Sunday after calls about shots fired. Emergency crews and investigators worked the scene for hours, collecting evidence as the area stayed closed to traffic.
Victims and condition
Two people were rushed to hospitals, while a third was treated at the scene and later died. KRDO identifies the wounded as an adult man and a juvenile girl, both listed in stable condition, and reports the third victim as an adult male who did not survive.
Investigation and how to help
The Colorado Springs Police Department's Homicide Unit is leading the investigation and has not released any suspect information. KKTV reports detectives are asking anyone with information or video from the Powers Boulevard area to call CSPD at 719-444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
Where this fits in a tense spring
The shooting comes on the heels of several other violent incidents in the city this spring. An officer-involved shooting earlier in April, as per Hoodline, and a plaza shooting that left a teenager dead in March have already put residents and first responders on edge, according to Hoodline.
Investigators said they will release more details as the probe continues. This story will be updated as authorities provide additional information.
