An early-morning collision at the intersection of Havens Corners Road and North Waggoner Road in Jefferson Township turned deadly Thursday, leaving one driver dead and another in the hospital. First responders arrived to find a downed power pole and live wires strewn across the scene, slowing both rescue and recovery efforts.
Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin said his office is investigating the fatal two-vehicle crash, which came in as a 5:51 a.m. call. Deputies reported that a black 2015 Honda Pilot traveling northbound collided with a black 2015 Acura TLX heading eastbound in the intersection, according to WSYX. Medics with Jefferson Township pronounced the Honda driver dead at the scene, while the Acura driver was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
Intersection Already on County Improvement List
The crossing at Havens Corners and Waggoner is already on the radar of county officials. It appears in the Franklin County Engineer’s 10‑year Capital Improvements Program as a site under study for future safety upgrades, according to the Franklin County Engineer. Data from the Ohio State Highway Patrol show Franklin County has recorded 29 fatal crashes so far this year, a sobering reminder of the region’s ongoing roadway dangers.
Investigation Ongoing; Officials Seek Witnesses
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office Crash Investigation Unit is continuing to piece together what led up to the collision. Anyone who may have seen the crash or has information is asked to contact the unit at 614‑525‑6113, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. Authorities have not yet released the names of the drivers, citing the need to notify next of kin, officials told WSYX.
