A tractor-trailer driver was killed Monday in a violent rollover crash on Interstate 95 northbound near the Danvers–Peabody line, according to state troopers. The big rig landed on its side, and a white passenger vehicle came to a stop in the grassy median, turning a routine drive into a miles-long traffic headache at Exit 70.
State Police: Driver Pronounced Dead At The Scene
Massachusetts State Police told the Boston Herald that the tractor-trailer driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers from the Danvers barracks responded to the northbound side of I-95 for a reported collision involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle, the outlet reported.
Exit 70 Shut For Hours As Mulch Load Scatters
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation urged drivers to steer clear after several northbound lanes and the Exit 70 off-ramp were closed for hours, according to WCVB. Aerial footage and on-the-ground coverage showed the trailer on its side and what reporters described as a spread load of mulch littering the shoulder and nearby woods, adding cleanup to an already grim scene.
Photos Show Overturned Cab, Minivan And Spill
Images published by NBC10 Boston capture the truck's cab flipped over and a minivan sitting in the median. The station reported that a substance had spilled from the trailer into the woods, underscoring the scope of the emergency response as crews worked to clear wreckage and repair damaged safety barriers.
Investigation Ongoing Into Cause Of Crash
Massachusetts State Police say the crash remains under active investigation and have not released the driver's identity or a possible cause, according to the Boston Herald. Cleanup operations and barrier repairs were expected to keep some lanes closed while crews worked the scene, WCVB reported.
