A motorcyclist died Tuesday after a car struck them at the intersection of New Kings Road and Trout River Boulevard in northwest Jacksonville, authorities said. Officials at the scene said the crash happened when a vehicle turned left in front of the motorcycle. Emergency crews transported the rider to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the crash and said lanes at the intersection were expected to reopen once investigators finished processing the scene, according to News4JAX. The outlet reported that troopers remained on site documenting evidence.
Scene And Response
FL511 traffic cameras in the area showed Jacksonville Sheriff's Office units alongside FHP troopers, with a section of roadway taped off, as reported by Action News Jax. Live traffic feeds showed lane closures and delays while crews worked to clear the scene. The station noted it would update its coverage as officials released more details.
A Dangerous Stretch
New Kings Road has been the site of multiple severe crashes in recent months, including other fatal motorcycle collisions that have stirred local concern, according to reporting on the third bike accident in a week. That coverage highlighted a cluster of bike- and pedestrian-involved incidents on the westside and renewed calls for both enforcement and engineering fixes.
City Plans And Safety Work
The city's proposed capital improvement plan includes funding for a Trout River Boulevard sidewalk project, covering roughly 3,300 feet from Old Kings Road to New Kings Road, intended to improve pedestrian and rider safety, according to the City of Jacksonville proposed CIP. The plan aligns with the city's Vision Zero Action Plan, which identifies high-injury corridors and lists speed and intersection-related movements among common causes of severe crashes.
The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, and troopers are documenting the scene. Lanes should be reopening soon, Action News Jax reported. We will update this post as authorities release official details.
