
A Sunday morning drive on U.S. 177 in Garvin County ended in tragedy when 39-year-old Steven Goodnight was killed in a head-on collision, according to troopers.
Goodnight was headed northbound on U.S. 177 when his vehicle crossed the center line and slammed into an oncoming car in the southbound lane, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers told KOKH. Emergency crews were called to the scene around 11 a.m. The other driver was injured, and Goodnight later died from his injuries. Investigators have not yet said what might have caused his vehicle to drift into oncoming traffic.
Where the Crash Happened
U.S. 177 is a mostly rural two-lane highway running north-south through Garvin County, linking communities including Pauls Valley and Wynnewood. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has listed resurfacing and widening work on parts of US-177 in Garvin County in its Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, with officials saying those projects are aimed at boosting safety along the corridor, according to ODOT.
