A male juvenile was rushed to the hospital overnight after being shot in the chest at a West Tulsa apartment complex, and police say he is expected to survive. Tulsa officers were dispatched to the Sandy Park Apartment Complex near the Gilcrease Expressway, at West 11th Place and South 61st West Avenue, where the boy was found wounded. No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
According to News On 6, the shooting happened overnight and the juvenile was found with a gunshot wound to the chest. Police have not said what led up to the shooting or whether a weapon has been recovered from the scene. The station reports the investigation remains active, with no suspects yet in custody.
A Recent Tragedy at the Complex
Sandy Park Apartments is located at 6301 W. 11th Place and is owned and managed by the Housing Authority of the City of Tulsa. The property has undergone renovations through HUD's Rental Assistance Demonstration program, including new appliances and laminate vinyl tile flooring.
In September 2025, a 13-year-old boy died at the same complex after a mortar-style firework exploded, a tragedy Hoodline previously reported.
Part of a Wider Pattern of Youth Gun Violence
This latest shooting adds to a string of incidents involving young people and firearms across Tulsa in recent weeks. In August, police investigated multiple shootings involving minors, including an August 7 incident that wounded four teenagers in North Tulsa and a July 29 shooting that killed a 13-year-old boy inside a stolen car.
Citywide, firearm-involved aggravated assaults and homicides are part of Tulsa's broader gun-violence picture. Other recent cases in the city have also involved shootings.
What Oklahoma Law Says About Minors and Guns
Oklahoma law also addresses parental liability when parents or guardians intentionally or recklessly allow a minor to possess a firearm while aware of a substantial risk that the minor will commit a crime, according to the Giffords Law Center. Oklahoma does not require general gun safe storage, but the statute can apply narrowly when reckless access and known criminal risk intersect.
