Downtown Denver is about to get a dog-obsessed twist on the classic dive bar. Two Lazy Dogs Bar & Grill is gearing up to serve cheap bar food, stay open late, and offer plenty of games, plus a weekly "Dog Bowl Thursday" where anyone willing to drink from a branded dog bowl scores a free beer.

As reported by 98.5 KYGO, Two Lazy Dogs has leased roughly 2,500 square feet at 1531 Champa Street and originally aimed for an April 27 grand opening before postponing the event. A new date has not been set. KYGO notes that most menu items will land around $10 and that the bar plans to stay open until midnight Sunday–Wednesday and until 2 a.m. Thursday–Saturday.

The Gimmick: Dog Bowl Thursdays

As detailed by Westword, business partners Chase Phillips, Steven Sen, and Michael Alvarado describe Two Lazy Dogs as a neighborhood-style dive that will host adoption events and donate a portion of net profits to local animal shelters. Westword also reports that the owners have a pair of actual "lazy dogs" that inspired signature cocktails such as the Ahsoka(tini) and the Ruby(loma).

What You'll Find Inside

According to 98.5 KYGO, the space will feature free pool, darts, foosball, arcade games, and a TouchTunes jukebox. The menu is built around burgers, smoked wings, and tacos. Drinks will include beer, shots and cocktails, along with at least one mocktail option.

What Was Here Before

The bar is taking over the long-vacant former Cheba Hut at 1531 Champa Street, a location Westword reported closed in May 2024 when its lease expired. The owners say they hope the new spot will help bring some extra life to the Central Business District for both office workers and neighborhood residents.

When To Go

Two Lazy Dogs' website currently lists a "Coming Soon" page for 1531 Champa Street. For now, the team is asking would-be regulars to follow the bar online while they lock in a new opening date. Hoodline previously ran a preview of the build-out on April 17, see the preview of the build-out, and we will update once the owners set a firm date.
