Mount Pleasant Coffee Co., a new beverage-focused concept from bakery owner Erinn Hartwell, is headed to the downtown square with a tentative June opening in sight. The idea is to pair a relaxed sit-down gathering spot with quick grab-and-go options, aimed at pulling more foot traffic back onto Main Street.
In an interview with WhatNow, Hartwell said the shop is planned for 106 N. Main Street, right next door to her Southern Baking Co. She added that the menu "won’t just be coffee, it’ll be energy drinks, smoothies, matchas, all things liquid."
Where It Will Sit
As noted on the The Southern Baking Co. website, the bakery lists a Mount Pleasant storefront at 111 N. Main Street and also operates a separate Spring Hill location. The bakery highlights a tea-room style experience and made-from-scratch pastries that have helped build Hartwell's profile in the area.
Menu And Pickup Plans
Hartwell told WhatNow she plans to offer canned coffee drinks and is working with the city to lock in a designated pickup parking spot in front of the square for customers who order ahead. The setup is meant to cater to people who want to linger over a drink as well as those who just need a quick caffeine stop.
Why Canned Coffee Matters
Ready-to-drink canned coffee is a growing slice of the beverage market, with analysts pointing to strong global expansion and rising demand for grab-and-go options. According to Fortune Business Insights, the RTD coffee market has expanded quickly in recent years, a trend small operators are tapping by adding retail-ready canned offerings alongside traditional cafe service.
Hartwell said the team is aiming for a June opening and plans to lean on the connection with her bakery to help revive downtown foot traffic after two years of square renovations. The town's visitor site lists local shops, including The Southern Baking Co., underscoring the effort to bring customers back to the area, according to Visit Mount Pleasant.
