Downtown Los Angeles started Wednesday, April 29, 2026, on the chilly side in the mid 50s, but the city is on track to warm nicely into the mid 70s by this afternoon. Mostly sunny skies and light south-southwest breezes should make it an easy day to run around town or sneak in some outdoor time.
Afternoon Warmth And Breezy Trouble Spots
Temperatures are expected to top out near 75°F in downtown on Wednesday afternoon, with interior valleys running a few degrees hotter as the sun does its work. Most of the basin will see only light 0–10 mph SSW winds, but late-afternoon gusts are likely to kick up across the Antelope Valley and the I-5 corridor. The western Santa Barbara south coast could flirt with near-advisory gusts, and boaters should pay attention to a Small Craft Advisory that is posted for some outer waters through 3 AM Friday. The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard expects the strongest gusts in the usual wind-prone passes and coastal channels.
Coastal Gloom, Clear Commute
A shallow marine layer will cling to parts of the coast through much of the morning, bringing low clouds or patches of fog right along the shoreline before most spots clear around midday. Coastal airports and on-ramps near the water could see short bursts of reduced visibility in the mid-morning hours, but inland commuters should have little trouble once the sun breaks through.
Steady Stretch Into Weekend, Then A Twist
Thursday and Friday are expected to follow a similar script, with highs in the mid 70s and continued light onshore flow. Conditions tick a bit warmer Friday into Saturday, when inland highs could reach the upper 70s. After that, a large upper low is forecast to slide south of the Bay Area Sunday into early next week, bringing more mid and high clouds and a modest shot at light showers Monday or Tuesday. The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard still pegs the odds of measurable rain as low, around 20 percent in any given six-hour window.
What To Bring Before Skies Shift
Layer up lightly for the cool morning, then keep sunglasses handy for the afternoon warm-up. If you are heading offshore or to breezy west-facing beaches, check the marine forecast and secure any loose outdoor gear ahead of the late-day gusts. For outdoor plans, Friday and Saturday are your best bets for warm, sunny weather before cooler, cloudier conditions try to move in early next week.
