Boston just snagged a serious food-world flex: High Street Place in Downtown Crossing has been voted the No. 1 food hall in the United States in USA Today’s 2026 10Best readers' poll. The 20,000-square-foot, five-story atrium has quickly turned into both a downtown lunch magnet and an evening hangout, thanks to a lineup of chef-driven stalls and a busy slate of events. The national win caps a steady rise for the project, which opened in 2022 and has since layered in new concepts year after year.
USA Today travel editors first narrowed the field to 20 nominees for the annual 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, then turned the final call over to the public. Voters across the country ultimately pushed High Street Place into the top slot, according to Boston.com. The 10Best format combines an expert-created shortlist with an open poll, blending editorial judgment with fan enthusiasm.
In a statement to Boston.com, High Street Place officials credited both their regulars and their vendors for the big showing, writing, "Every vote, every visit helped make this happen." They also offered thanks to local operators whose concepts helped propel the hall onto the national radar.
Why the Space Stands Out
The food hall spans roughly 20,000 square feet and centers on a five-story connecting atrium with a living green wall and retractable window walls that open to a year-round patio, according to project details from Acentech. Designers also built in acoustic treatments and AV systems to handle frequent live music and watch parties, features that help the space shift from a workday lunch hub to a livelier nighttime scene, BostonChefs reported.
Chef-Driven Stalls and Recent Openings
The hall lists about 20 food and drink vendors and prominently features James Beard–nominated chef Tiffani Faison among its operators, according to High Street Place. Faison’s latest stall, Tigerbaby, opened at the hall this winter, Axios Boston noted, joining earlier hits like Bubble Bath, Tenderoni’s and Dive Bar that helped build early buzz for the venue.
What the Win Means Nationally
The top ranking puts Boston at the front of a national lineup that also includes food halls from Lancaster, Milwaukee and St. Louis, underscoring how the model has become a multi-city phenomenon and a staple of contemporary dining, according to coverage of the 10Best results. The broader Top 10, which highlights Southern Market in Lancaster and 3rd Street Market Hall in Milwaukee among the highest-ranked spots, was called out in reporting on the USA TODAY list by the Charlotte Observer.
Closer to home, the new bragging rights are likely to keep High Street Place packed from noon to night. The hall maintains a full calendar of music, classes and watch parties on its website, along with a rundown of every vendor. For details, check out High Street Place.
