A man died after a shooting Saturday in the 1600 block of Elaine Road on Columbus’s east side, police say. Officers found the victim with a gunshot wound and rushed him to Mount Carmel East, where he was pronounced dead at 4:36 p.m.
Homicide Detectives Take Over
Because of the catastrophic nature of the injuries, homicide detectives have taken over the case and are treating it as a homicide, according to WSYX. That report says Detective Radich is the lead investigator, Detective Niederkohr is assisting, and police have not released a possible motive.
Police Ask for Tips
Anyone with information is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at (614)-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614)-461-TIPS (8477), per Central Ohio Crime Stoppers. The Columbus Division of Police lists the homicide tip line in its media releases, and Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous reports by phone or through its website.
Where This Fits In
The shooting is the latest violent incident that has kept investigators busy this year, including several high-profile cases that drew national attention earlier in 2026, according to Axios. Detectives have urged residents to hand over footage and tips to help solve serious crimes.
Police did not immediately release suspect information, and officials say they will update the public as the investigation continues. Anyone with footage or other relevant details is urged to contact the homicide unit or Crime Stoppers right away.
