Fort Worth is getting ready to give its municipal airports a serious tune-up, as the City Council moves a wave of projects into the money stage. Upgrades at Meacham, Spinks and Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance are aimed squarely at meeting strong private and business aviation demand, with work ranging from runway and taxiway fixes to pavement reseals and new maintenance space that city officials say will help unlock hangar development and other private investment.

Council approvals and funding

At the March 10 meeting, the council authorized applications for roughly $3.2 million in federal and state airport grants, signed off on required local matches and approved land-credit arrangements, pushing the projects into the grant-award phase, according to Community Impact. The applications lean on IIJA airport infrastructure funding for runway rehabilitation, taxiway construction and pavement management work across all three airports.

Meacham: runway rehab, taxiway and maintenance space

At Meacham, the plan centers on the rehabilitation of Runway 16/34, construction of a new parallel taxiway known as Taxiway Tango and upgrades to the instrument-landing system. The airport's outreach page notes that the runway project is tentatively targeted to begin in fiscal 2028 with an estimated $26 million cost, according to the City of Fort Worth. The Aviation Department also expects to add a new maintenance building and replace an aging fuel facility as part of a longer-term buildout meant to support larger corporate aircraft.

Perot Field and Spinks work

Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance is lined up to seek roughly $1.55 million for joint reseal work, pavement repairs and Taxiway Papa improvements, with the city authorizing in-kind land credits to serve as the local match, according to council materials and local reporting by Community Impact. Spinks will pursue a separate IIJA application of up to $675,000 for runway reconstruction, and the Spinks master plan points to potential runway extensions, including roughly a 500-foot option on one end, intended to support heavier aircraft and future development, according to the Fort Worth Spinks master plan.

Leases, hangars and what's next

The council also signed off on a small hangar ground lease at Meacham and a 43,560-square-foot parking lease at the Alliance maintenance facility as part of the consent agenda, moves city officials say are intended to help catalyze private investment and jobs. Those items appear on the March 10 agenda in the City of Fort Worth meeting record, and are designed to work in tandem with public grant funding to expand Fort Worth's role as a business-jet hub and broader economic engine.

Most of the projects still depend on formal grant awards, followed by design, permitting and scheduling. The Aviation Department and the Aviation Advisory Board have already begun tenant and community outreach to limit disruption once construction starts, and the city says planning sessions will be set up as project details are finalized, according to the City of Fort Worth.
